GERMANY. Zeppelin Visits Nuremberg Silver Medal, 1909. PCGS MATTE SPECIMEN-64 Gold Shield.
Kaiser-327. Mintage: 102. By H. Strobel. Obverse: Zeppelin and hot air balloon over detailed city-view with people gathering; Reverse: Inscription beneath garland with legend around. A RARE medal, and among the most elegant of the period, with the civic scene displayed on the obverse having been executed in painstaking fashion. Notable quality for the issue as well, the surfaces display pleasing gray tone and very few of the grazes that the matte finish is prone to. Similar in overall quality to an example that was sold in a Meister & Sonntag auction in September 2007 for €1,000 hammer (approximately $1,400 USD hammer at the time). Undoubtedly elite, this medal should speak loudly to the collector with a fascination in early aviation.
