THEODOSIUS II, A.D. 402-450. AV Solidus (4.48 gms), Constantinople Mint, 6th Officina, A.D. 425-429. NGC MS, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5.
RIC-237; Depeyrot-79/1. Obverse: D N THEODOSIVS P F AVG, diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust facing slightly right, holding spear and shield decorated with horseman motif; Reverse: SALVS REIPVBLICAE, Theodosius II and Valentinian III seated facing on double throne, each holding mappa and cruciform scepter; star above; S//CONOB. Quite lustrous and sharply struck, this brilliant, Mint State specimen features a good deal of radiating eye appeal.
