JULIUS CAESAR. AV Stater, Rome Mint; A. Hirtius, praetor, 46 B.C. ICG VF 35.
Cr-466/1; CRI-56; Calico-37b; Syd-1018. Obverse: C CAESAR COS TER, veiled female head right; Reverse: A HIRTIVS PR, emblems of the augurate and pontificate: lituus, guttus, and securis. Struck just a few years before the assassination of Caesar, this moderately handled piece features some lightly scattered marks but nevertheless stands as a pleasing representation of one of the most famous Romans.
