MACEDON. Kingdom of Macedon. Time of Philip II to Alexander III (the Great), ca. 340/36-328 B.C. AV Stater, Pella Mint, 323-316 BC. ICG AU 55.
HGC-3.1, 846. In the name and types of Philip II. Obverse: Laureate head of Apollo right; Reverse: Charioteer driving biga right; thunderbolt below; ΦIΛIΠΠOY in exergue. An excellent and highly attractive example of this indeterminate stater, struck toward the latter part of the reign of Philip II or the early portion of his successor's reign, Alexander the Great. Lustrous and rather well centered.
