Description

SEXTUS POMPEY. AR Denarius (3.61 gms), Uncertain mint in Sicily, 37/6 B.C. NGC VF, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 3/5. Light Marks.

Cr-511/3a; CRI-334; Syd-1344. Obverse: Bare head of Pompey the Great right; capis to left, lituus to right; Reverse: Neptune standing left, holding apluster and resting foot on prow between the Catanaean brothers Anapias and Amphinomus running in opposite directions, bearing their parents on their shoulders. A pleasingly toned example of the type, featuring a solid centering of strike, though a few light marks are noted above Pompey's head.
