1883 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. Unc Details--Cleaned (PCGS).
An impressively sharp Uncirculated survivor from this rare issue. The complexion is overall Khaki-gold with considerable reflectivity glimmering in the fields. Sharply struck with satiny luster on the design elements. Hairlines are most obvious in the obverse fields, but the eye appeal remains overall appealing. Only 900 examples of this denomination were struck in 1883, all delivered on December 15. Despite the limited press run, a couple of hundred survivors are thought to exist. Just about half of these are Uncirculated, most of which reside at the lower end of the scale, as here. Desirable Mint State preservation for the of the most instantly recognizable key date issues in the challenging three-dollar gold series.
