g Australia, Victoria (1837-1901), gold Half-Sovereign, 1891-S, Sydney Mint, Jubilee style bust facing left, designed by J. Edgar Boehm, small crown and veil on head, I.E.B. initials close together raised on truncation with imperfect J, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. crowned quartered high shield of arms, S and date below more spread out either side of bottom of frame, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: (DISH S509 R3; Hill 487A R3; Bull EGC 1645 R4; S.3871C). Toned, some surface marks, has been slabbed and graded by NGC as AU50, very rare.NGC Certification 8368654-008.
Calendar year mintage 23,100.
The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse as "Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
