g Australia, Victoria (1837-1901), gold Half-Sovereign, 1887-S, Sydney Mint, Jubilee style bust facing left, small crown and veil on head, J.E.B. initials very spread and raised on truncation with hooked J for designer J. Edgar Boehm, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. crowned quartered high shield of arms, date below either side of bottom of frame, mint mark letter S directly below frame at border teeth, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: (DISH S502 R4; Hill 485A R4; Bull EGC 1637 R4; S.3871). Toned has been slabbed and graded by NGC as AU53, very rare.NGC Certification 8368654-001.
Calendar year mintage c.20,100.
The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse as "Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
