g Victoria (1837-1901), gold Half-Sovereign, 1871, second young head left, nose points nearer to T in repositioned legend, transitional type A2 with die number, with date below, Latin legend surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, coarse toothed border around rim, I of DEI points to bead, last I of legend to bead, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, die number 56 below, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF: (Hill 446C R2; Bull EGC.-; MCE.-; S.3860C). Toned with some light hairlines, has been slabbed and graded by PCGS as AU58, very rare.PCGS Certification 517606.58/37318636.
Calendar year mintage 2,217,760 though only a proportion would be this variety.
The Latin legends translates on obverse as "Victoria by the Grace of God," and on the reverse as "Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
