Description

George III (1760-1820), Copper Gilt Pattern Farthing, 1798, early Soho mint, Birmingham, K in truncation for Conrad Heinrich Küchler, laureate draped and armoured bust right, 3 berries in wreath, brooch with seven irregular jewels, legend surrounds GEORGIUS III D.G REX, date below, rev. Britannia seated left, triangle of dots on rock, ship in sail to left, N in farthing without top left serif, Scottish saltire with thin raised line borders, BRITANNIA above, denomination below, edge plain, 7.10G (Cooke 307; BMC 1202; KF.3). Lustrous tone with traces of original mint red, surface field marks and some rub to high points, otherwise good very fine or better, rare.

The Latin legends translate as on obverse "George III, by the grace of God, King" and on the reverse "of Britain."
