Description

Edward VI (1547-1553), Shilling, Fine silver issue, (1551-1553), Tower mint; mintmark Y, inner beaded border and linear circles, legend reads EDWARD VI D’ G’ AGL’ FRA’ Z HIB’ REX, crowned facing bust, rose to left, XII to right, rev, square topped coat-of-arms with long cross fourchée, legend around POSVI DEV’ ADIVTORE’ MEV’, weight 5.76g (N.1937; S.2482). Old tone, fully centred strike on a notably broad and round flan, obverse scratch, good portrait. Bold fine.

The Latin legend translates as "Edward VI by the grace of God, King of England France and Ireland” the reverse translates to “I have made God my helper.”
