German East Africa, Wilhelm II (1888-1918), silver Rupie and Quarter Rupie, 1913 and 1914, Hamburg mint, uniformed bust left, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding GUILELMUS II IMPERATOR, rev. denomination and date across three lines centre, mint letter J below, all within palm wreath, inscription DEUTSCH OSTAFRIKA above round, edges milled, 11.68 and 2.88g respectively (KM 10; Schön 13; KM 8; Schön 11). Reverse of Rupie lightly polished with some nicks and bagmarks, obverse and Quarter Rupie otherwise toned with some subdued lustre, both a bold very fine. (2)

The Latin legend translates as “William the Second, Emperor,” and the inscription on the reverse as “German East Africa.”
