Description

Victoria (1837-1901), gold Sovereign, 1847, first young filleted head left, W.W. raised on truncation for engraver William Wyon, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, VICTORIA DEI GRATIA, rev. crowned quartered shield of arms, laurel wreath surrounding, emblems below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, BRITANNIARUM REGINA FID: DEF:, edge milled, 8.03g (Bentley 53; Marsh 30; MCE 508; S.3852). Light bagmarks in obverse field with patches of residual lustre, graded by NGC as MS61.

NGC Certification 6845263-004

Calendar year mintage 4,667,126.

The Latin legends translate as on obverse as “Victoria by the Grace of God,” and on the reverse as “Queen of the Britons, Defender of the Faith.”
