BR. FRA. ET. HIB REX., edge inscribed in raised letters, DECUS. ET. TVTAMEN. ANNO. REG. VICESIMO. QVINTO., 30.01g (Bull 390; ESC 47; S.3358). Toned with pitting on obverse, copper toning around reverse details, graded by NGC as AU50.
NGC Certification 6769883-001 – we note this coin is currently the sixth finest graded out of 34 pieces graded by NGC.
The Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles the Second by the Grace of God" and on the reverse, "King of Great Britain, France and Ireland" and additionally on the edge "An ornament and a safeguard, in the 24th year of the reign." The regnal year for Charles II always ignores the Commonwealth period and counts the regnal year from the death of his Father in January 1648/9.
