Charles I (1625-49), silver Shilling, Tower mint under Parliament, group G, type 46, initial mark sceptre (1645-46), seventh shorter bust left, large value behind, beaded circle and legend surrounding, CAROLVS. D: G: MAG’ BRI’ FRA. ET. HIB. REX., rev. long cross fourchée over quartered arms, beaded circle and legend surrounding, CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO, 5.57g (Sharp H3/2; Brooker 569; N.2234; S.2804). A little uneven in shape with some doubling of strike in parts and weak in others, toned, almost very fine and a rare final issue of his reign and an ex Standard Catalogue plate coin.
The abbreviated Latin legends translate as on the obverse "Charles by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland"; and on the reverse "I reign under the auspice of Christ."
