George III 1799 Droz Pattern Penny
George III (1760-1820), copper pattern Penny by Droz, 1799, laureate bust right dividing date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GEORGIUS III : D : G : REX, rev. four line Latin inscription VIGEBIT / IN / OMNE / AEVUM, toothed border surrounding, edge plain, 24.35g (BHM 465; Montagu 28). Toned with appealing subdued prooflike brilliance, surface mark over III in obverse legend, once graded by NGC as MS63 BN but now broken out, rare.
The Latin legend translates as “George the Third by the Grace of God, King,” and the inscription on the reverse as “It shall thrive throughout the ages.”
