William IV (1830-37), gold proof Half Sovereign, 1831, struck on small flan, bare head right, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, GULIELMUS IIII D: G: BRITANNIAR: REX F: D: rev. crowned quartered shield of arms in frame, date ANNO 1831 below, edge plain, 3.94g (WR 267 R3; Marsh 409E; S.3830). Light tone over underlying proof brilliance, hairline scratch above forehead in field and another near mouth, other light hairlines on neck, two small rim bruises on reverse, otherwise good extremely fine and rare.
The Latin legend translates as "William the Fourth by the Grace of God, King of the Britons, Defender of the Faith."
