Description

Anne 1714 Guinea

Anne (1702-14), gold Guinea, 1714, Post-Union, third draped bust left, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, ANNA. DEI. GRATIA., rev. Post-Union crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles, garter star at centre, date either side of top crown, abbreviated Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, .MAG BRI. FR ET. HIB REG., edge milled, 8.29g (Schneider -; Bull EGC 479; Farey 0570; MCE 226; S.3574). Struck on an elongated flan, toned with surface marks around details, otherwise very fine.

The Latin legends translate to on obverse "Anne by the Grace of God," and abbreviated on the reverse as "Queen of Great Britain, France and Ireland."

The 1714 calendar year had an output of £1,313,07 worth of gold struck into coin. This figure includes the 'Prince Elector' Guinea of George I struck in the same year. The exact number breakdown of both is therefore unknown.
