Stephen (1135-54), silver Penny, obverse variant of Watford type (c.1136-c.1145), Pevensey Mint, Moneyer Alwine, crowned bust right with lis headed sceptre, eight-pointed pierced star to right, no inner circle, Latin legend and beaded border surrounding, +STIEFNE, rev. saltire at centre of cross moline, lis in each angle, Latin legend and beaded border surrounding, +ALPINE ON: PEVEN, 1.19g (Mack 120a; N.885/1; S.1292). Some scratches to obverse, otherwise very fine with beautiful cabinet toning, an extremely rare mint.
