These currency cards are considered the first Rhodesian banknotes. Issued at Bulawayo, Matabeleland, they were the only banknotes to have been issued by the British South Africa Company under the authority of Lt. Col. Hugh Marshall Hole, Civil Commissioner to pay troops due to the scarcity of silver coins.
