Description

George V (1910-36), 10-piece gold and silver "short" proof Set, 1911, Coronation year, gold Sovereign and Half Sovereign, silver Halfcrown, Florin, Shilling, Sixpence and Maundy Set, all housed in original Royal Mint octagonal dated case (S.PS12). Some with marks, the Sixpence with an obverse scratch, otherwise a practically as struck set with handsome tone.

These shorter gold and silver proof sets were produced to celebrate the Coronation of King George V on 22nd June 1911, with a mintage of only 952 sets which is nearly 2,000 fewer than the full "long" gold proof set (2,812 sets).

The Latin legends translates on obverse as "George the Fifth by the Grace of God, King of all the Britains, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India."
