Description

ACHAEMENID EMPIRE. Artaxerxes II to Darios III. 4th century BC. Obol (?) (silver, 0.60 g, 9 mm). Uncertain mint in western Asia Minor (Ionia or Caria?). Persian king or hero, wearing kidaris and kandys, quiver over shoulder, in kneeling-running stance right, holding spear and bow. Rev. Head of Satrap right, wearing bashlyk. Corfù pl. 4, 3; BMC 25 (Mallos); Babelon, Perses 191 (Tarsos); Brindley 84 (Ionia or Caria); Sunrise 92. Nearly very fine.
