The Herodians were a political and religious group in ancient Judea during the Roman Empire's reign. They staunchly supported the Herodian dynasty, a line of Roman-appointed rulers that governed parts of the eastern Roman Empire, including Judea. Their loyalty was unwavering, aligning closely with the Herodian family and the Roman authorities. This made them pro-Roman, supporting Roman policies in the region. The Herodians didn't have distinct religious beliefs but were primarily a political faction. Unlike some other Jewish groups, they were willing to accommodate Roman customs, which often led to them being less observant of Jewish religious traditions. In the New Testament, particularly in the Gospels of Matthew and Mark, the Herodians make an appearance. They collaborated with the Pharisees in posing a politically charged question to Jesus about paying taxes to Caesar, illustrating their role in the complex socio-political landscape of ancient Judea.
