Good Very Fine. Extremely Rare.
A tumultuous civil war followed the death of Khosrau II in AD 628, and it is thought that Hormizd V or VI was one of the unsuccessful claimants to the throne, probably Khosrau II's grandson, who was murdered after a short time on the throne. Hs coinage mimics the later issues of Khosrau II and he is recorded as having struck only silver drachms for years 1-3. For more information about this ruler and his coinage see H. Mehdi Malek, 'Late Sasanian Coinage and the Collection in the Muzeh Melli Iran' Review of V. S. Curtis, M. E. Askari, E. J. Pendleton, R. Hodges and A. A. Safi ed., Sasanian Coins.
