Description

Kings of Thrace, Lysimachos AR Tetradrachm. Sestos, circa 299-296 BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander to right, with horn of Ammon / Athena Nikephoros seated to left, left arm resting on shield, spear behind; BΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ to right, ΛΥΣΙΜΑXΟΥ to left, axe(?) to inner left field. Cf. Thompson 28 (axe, not plated); Müller -; HGC 3.2 1750 corr. (unlisted mint); Roma E-Sale 29, 120 (same dies). 17.21g, 30mm, 2h.

Good Extremely Fine; minor die breaks on rev., struck from dies of wonderful style. Exceedingly Rare; only one other example on CoinArchives, none in the ANS photofile.
