Description

Roman Provincial, Pisydia, Aurelian, Tetrassarion Cremna OBVERSE laureated, cuirassed and draped bust of Aurelian to right. IMP CS. L DO.M. AVRELIANO REVERSE Zeus-Sarapis seated left, holding sceptre, Cerberus at foot. COL IULI  AU CREMNE (Coloniæ Iuli Augusti Cremne) NOTE: Unusual representation on the reverse. It is one of the last “colonial” coins outside the Alexandrian coinage. Same dies as the copy of the BnF Cabinet of Medals n° 1529, pl. 84. Tetraassarion? 270-275 Cremna (Pisidia) NOTE: Cremna (Greek Κρῆμνα), was an ancient town in Pisidia. It is situated in the district of Bucak. It stands in a remote valley on a high plateau dominating the ancient Cestrus River, with limited access and good defensive features.
