Description

Roman Empire, Probus, Antoninian, Ticinum - rare Extremely rare and desirable reverse type! In addition a much, much rarer abbreviated spelling variant than the more common (but still very rare) VIRTVS INVICTI AVG variant.   Same pair of dies as specimen from the Hungarian National Museum (see Hiland/Oliva coin no. 739). Apparently only the second example of this exact type known in the world! Provenance: ex Philippe Gysen collection = ex AUCTIONES aution 40 lot 119 (September 2015) = ex S. Luethi collection Obverse:  Radiate bust left in consular robe, holding eagle-tipped sceptre (scipio), legend:
