Description

INDIA, Medieval (Southern Deccan). Western Gangas. Circa AD 900-1000. repousse fabric, Gold punch-marked Gadyana (3.71 gm; 30 mm). As feudatories of the Kakatiyas. A series of eight punches: central punch of caparisoned wild boar standing right with four additional punches around; in between outer punches, two śri punches, and two punches with Kannada legends / Incuse of obverse. Gold Coins of the Kakatiyas (Andhara Pradesh, 2001), 529; Classical Numismatic Gallery 38, lot 252; Oswal 89, lot 118. Well struck on a nice full flan. Choice Superb EF. Rare.
