Description

SASANIAN KINGS, Yazdgird I, 399-420 AD. PB (Lead) Unit (3.38 gm; 15 mm). Obverse, standard portrait turning right with 8 sided flower Lotus in front of face, reverse, fire altar with attendants, and crescent on both sides of flame. Lotus in Zoroastrian Persian culture represents, peace and tranquilty of water, which associates it with Goddess Anahit as seen on the rock carvings of Persepolis. Many research points to the existance of Anahit as other Goddess before the rise of Achaemenids. 8 side lotus in Buddahism tradition represents the 8 fold path to enlightment. Choice VF. Nice original find patina. Rare.
