Description

PAMPHYLIA, Side. Circa 370-360 BC. AR Stater (10.47 gm; 21 mm). Athena standing left, holding Nike, which crowns her, with her right hand, while resting her left arm on shield behind which stands spear, pomegranate to left / Apollo standing left, naked, but for a himation draped across his upper arms, holding laurel branch with his left hand, and sacrificing out of phiale over lighted altar to left, raven on ground to right, Pamphylian legend to right, Pamphylian psi between phiale and altar. SNG von Aulock 4771; Atlan 112; SNG France 649. Reverse a bit off center, otherwise well struck. Choice EF. Nice old cabinet toning.
