SASANIAN KINGS. Yazdgird II, 438-457 AD. AR Drachm (4.12 gm; 29 mm). Yazdgird bust truning right with standard crown, behind the head legend reading counterclockwise "mzdysn wlhl(a)n" mentioning Bahram (Varhran) (Yazdgird's father), continuing to front of face, KD (Kay-King).....(y?).zkrtn (Yazdgird), reverse, no mint (most likely somewhere in the east as the features of the portrait is closely associated with Marv issues from Bahram V, phrase NWKY (Goodness and Good Deed) on the right, kings name on the left, bold and large portrait, excellent style and strike, extremely rare to see name of the king and his father mentioned at the same time. The text in the back of the head might be from an earlier die but that can not be definitly stated. In addition name "Bahram" might be a reference to Angel or God of victory Bahram and not Yazdgird's father. Nice style. Choice EF. Lightly toned.
