Description

PHOENICIA, Tyre. Circa 360-300 BC. AR Didrachm-Shekel (8.61 gm; 19 mm). Deity, holding reins in right hand, arched bow in left, riding hippocamp right above two lines of waves; below, dolphin right / Owl standing right, head facing; crook and flail in background; –O above IIIII (date) in right field. Betlyon 37; Rouvier 1816; HGC 10, 349; DCA 918; SG 5915; BMC 39; Sunrise 136. Shallow scrape on the obverse field between 7-11, otherwise well struck. Good metal. Choice EF. Nice old cabinet toning.
