Description

SELEUKID EMPIRE. Seleukos I Nikator. 312-281 BC. AR Tetradrachm (15.52 gm; 27 mm). Susa mint. Struck circa 300-295 BC. Head of hero (Alexander or Seleukos?) right, wearing helmet covered with panther skin and adorned with the ear and horns of a bull / Nike standing right erecting trophy; DI in lower field between Nike and trophy. Cf. SC 173.11; ESMS 54 (A40/P6); Sunrise 174 Var. A bit rough surfaces on obverse and reverse fields. Nicely struck on a broad flan. Obverse a bit off center. Full strike on reverse. Choice EF.
