Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). Tetradrachm. Posthumous issue of Amphipolis, under Cassander as regent (317-305 BC), ca. 317-315 BC. Obv: Head of Heracles right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck. Rev: AΛEΞANΔPOY, Zeus seated left on backless throne, left leg drawn back, feet on ground line, eagle in right hand, scepter in left; E in left field, A above bucranium below throne. Price -, cf. 432.
The style of this example is clearly Amphipolis and the control marks match Price 432. Condition: Good very fine.
Weight: 16.7 g.
