Description

LYDIA. Thyateira. Eumenes III Aristonikos (Pretender to the throne of Pergamon, 132-130 BC). Cistophor. Dated year 2 (of his revolt, 132/1 BC).

Obv: Cista mystica with serpent; all within ivy wreath.
Rev: Bowcase between two serpents; ΘVA to left. Controls: BA - EY across field, horizontal winged thunderbolt above, B (date) below; to right, head (of Dionysos?) right.

Kleiner & Noe series 1; SNG von Aulock 3198; CNG 100, lot 1486 (which realized a hammer of $2,000 [!]).
