Africanus Fabius Maximus, born in 45 BC, was the brother of Paullus Fabius Maximus, consul in 11 BC. He obtained the consulship himself in 10 BC and administrated Africa as proconsul in 4 BC. The 'agnomen' Africanus probably originates from his distant parentage with Publius Cornelius Africanus the younger, adopted son of Scipio Africanus. His portrait appears very rarely in the provincial issues of only two cities: Hadrumetum and Hippo Regius.

Condition: Very fine.

Weight: 6.34 g.
Diameter: 23 mm.
