Milvian Bridge! Milvian Bridge!
Constantinople Commemorative (ca. 330-340) AE nummus (Bronze, 15mm, 1.06g) Constantinople, AD 330, struck under Constantine I to commemorate the moving of the Roman capitol from Rome to Constantinople.
Obv: POP ROMANVS, laureate, draped bust of Genius left, cornucopia over left shoulder
Rev: CONS / Z, Milvian Bridge over the River Tiber.
Ref: RIC VIII 21.
The reverse depicts the namesake location of the Battle of Milvian Bridge, which saw a decisive victory for Constantine against Maxentius. According to legend, Constantine converted to Christianity just before the battle after a vision of a giant chi-rho symbol in the sky.
