Draped bust on the right., Concordia seated to left with patera and double cornucopiae., Beautiful and rare sesterce of Orbiane, wife of Alexander Severus from 225 to 227. Known for her beauty, she was married at the age of 16 to the emperor, given the title of Augusta, but had an execrable relationship with her mother-in-law, Julia Mamaea. Orbiane then seeks protection from her father, the influential senator Seius Sallustius, but the latter calls in the Praetorian Guard, which will be interpreted as treason. Consequently, Julia Mamaea had Orbiane exiled to Libya and her father executed, without Alexander Severus reacting to oppose it. The sesterce we offer for sale is a rare testimony of this young and short-lived empress, she is nevertheless the only wife of Alexander Severus to be present on coins, on which we find much more often her mother, Julia Mamaea...! Belle patine verte., Buste drapé à droite., Concordia assise à gauche tenant une patère et une double corne d'abondance., Joli et rare sesterce d'Orbiane, femme d'Alexandre Sévère de 225 à 227. Connue pour sa beauté, elle est mariée à l'âge de 16 ans à l'empereur, nommée Augusta, elle entretient des relation exécrable avec sa belle mère Julia Mamaea. Orbiane cherche alors une protection auprès de son père, l'influent sénateur Seius Sallustius, mais ce dernier fait appel à la garde prétorienne, ce qui sera interprété comme une trahison. En conséquent, Julia Mamaea fait exiler Orbiane en Lybie et exécuter son père, sans qu'Alexandre Sévère ne réagisse pour s'y opposer. Le sesterce que nous proposons à la vente est un rare témoignage de cette jeune et éphémère impératrice, elle est néanmoins la seule épouse d'Alexandre Sévère à être présente sur des monnaies, sur lesquelles on trouve bien plus souvent sa mère, Julia Mamaea...!
