Description

Russia, Novgorod Republic. Poltina ND (1201-1450). Silver 93.51 g. 12-19x62 mm. A new standardized type of bullion - the Novgorod ruble - appeared at the beginning of the 13th century. The first written mention of the term 'Ruble' refers to the 1280s. The division of the ruble into halves gave rise to the term 'Poltina'. It became widespread later, mainly in the Moscow and Tver principalities. HP II 205.
