Russia USSR Medal 1961 For the Defense of Kiev . The medal For the Defense of Kiev is made of brass and has the shape of a regular circle with a diameter of 32 mm. On the obverse of the medal is a silhouette of the building of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR with a waving flag. On the background of the building there is an image of a soldier; a sailor; a worker and a partisan with rifles at the ready. In the upper part of the medal along the circumference there is an inscription “FOR DEFENSE OF KIEVA”. In the lower part; along the circumference; there is a laurel wreat;. at the lower ends of the branches there is a ribbon with a five-pointed star. The obverse of the medal is bordered with a convex rim. On the reverse side of the medal there is an inscription “FOR OUR SOVIET HOMELAND”. Above the inscription there is an image of a hammer and sickle. All inscriptions and images on the medal are convex. The medal is connected with an eyelet and a ring to a pentagonal block covered with an olive silk moire ribbon 24 mm wide. In the center of the tape there are two longitudinal stripes: red - 4 mm wide and blue - 2 mm wide. Brass. Weight approx: 29.32 g. Diameter: 32 mm.
