Description
A Greek Decorated Lead Sling Shot Inscribed CΤΡΑΤΩ
Circa 4th-3rd century BC.
Almond shaped sling bullet with a coiled snake on one side and inscribed CΤΡΑΤΩ on the other. Στρατός in Ancient Greek would mean 'army'. The C-like shape of the Σ developed already in the 4th century BC.
L 29 mm Ex European private collection, acquired between 1990 and 2005.
