TWO VENETIAN LEAD THERIAC CAPSULE SEALS
Circa 17th century AD.
Two lids from Theriac boxes. One from the Due Mori pharmacy, depicting confronted busts of two moors surrounded by the legend THERIACA FINA ALI DVE MORI VEN; the other from the Struzzo d'Oro pharmacy, depicting an ostrich standing left with a small serpent in the beak and the lion of St. Markus in the left field, surrounded by the legend THERIACA FINA AL STRUZZO DORO V.
Diameter 23 mm, and diameter 26 mm Ex European private collection, acquired on the German art market in the late 1990s.
