A ROMANESQUE BRONZE FIGURE OF ST JOHN MOURNING
Circa 12th century AD.
St John the Evangelist is shown in a long robe, touching his face with the left hand in a gesture of mourning. In the right hand probably a book or scroll (?). His face features staring almond-shaped eyes with protruding eyeballs, typical for this period. A pierced thorn surmounts the head; body below waist not preserved.
