A ROMAN BRONZE STATUETTE OF MARS
Circa 2nd-3rd century AD.
Mars, the god of war and agriculture, is shown standing in full armour, with high-crested Corinthian helmet, muscle cuirass over short-sleeved knee-length tunic, and greaves. A cloak is hanging from his left shoulder and wrapped around his left arm, in his left hand he holds an upright parazonium, a short sword in its scabbard. His right arm reaches upward, with two fingers of the right hand touching the helmet. Remains of a rod (?) for attachment at the back; both feet missing.
