A ROMAN CARNELIAN INTAGLIO DEPICTING SOL INVICTUS
Circa 3rd century AD.
Sol is shown standing right with his right hand raised in salutation. He wears a radiate crown and holds a whip in his left hand; from his left arm hangs a mantle. With some iron deposits, suggesting that the gem would have been set into an iron ring.
