A MINIATURE ROMAN DANUBIAN RIDER LEAD VOTIVE PLAQUE
Circa 3rd-4th century AD.
Unpublished and unique miniature rectangular ‘Mystery Plaque’. Depicted are (from top to bottom): stars flanked by busts of Sol (left) and Luna (right). In the main register, a facing goddess, flanked by two horsemen trampling on two prone men. Below the goddess, a tripod; to the left, a sacrifice scene, to the right and below the tripod, further figures and ritual implements. For the iconography see: R. F.
