A ROMAN DANUBIAN RIDER LEAD VOTIVE PLAQUE
Circa 3rd-4th century AD.
Rectangular ‘Mystery Plaque’ with twisted border and wavy top. In the wavy top section, a fish flanked by stars. Within the main field (from top to bottom): two snakes drinking (?) water flowing out of a krater with lid, flanked by busts of Sol (right) and Luna (left). In the main register, a facing goddess, flanked by two horsemen trampling on two prone men; behind them a standing figure wearing a ram-head mask (left), and a female figure (right). At the bottom, a sacrifice scene and further implements. Ertl Type F1, see: R. F. Ertl, Donaureiter Bleivotivtafeln (Petronell-Carnuntum 1996). Slightly bent but intact.
