A ROMAN PALE BLUE-GREEN GLASS FINELY RIBBED BOWL
Circa early 1st century AD.
An exquisite shallow mould-blown glass bowl with fine vertical ribs extending from the shoulder to two horizontal ribs slightly above the bottom; the domed base with a raised dot at the centre and three concentric circles. Mold seams faintly visible on rim. For a similar bowl see: E. M. Stern, The Toledo Museum of Art. Roman mold-blown Glass (Toledo 1995), p.113, no.14. The form of this shallow bowl was inspired by Greek bronze phialae (libation bowls).
