A RARE ROMAN DANUBIAN RIDER LEAD VOTIVE PLAQUE Circa 3rd-4th century AD. Circular ‘Mystery Plaque’. Depicted are (from top to bottom): busts of Sol (left) and Luna (right), between them an eagle and two stars, further objects around. In the main register, a facing goddess (Epona) and a tripod table with a large fish, flanked by two horsemen swinging an axe in their raised left hand, trampling on two prone men; behind them a further figure on either side. At the bottom, a kantharos in the centre, flanked by a lion (left) and a rooster (right); further figures and implements around. For the upper part see Ertl Type H 16-001 (fragmented plaque): R. F. Ertl, Donaureiter Bleivotivtafeln (Petronell-Carnuntum 1996). Very rare type, lower part unpublished! Minor damage. Diameter 80 mm
