A LARGE BYZANTINE BRONZE PROCESSIONAL CROSS Circa 10th-12th century AD. Completely preserved cross with flaring arms, decorated in the corners with small disks that once carried further decoration (remains of solder visible). In the centre, an engraved medallion depicting St. John with halo around the head, his right hand holding a book, his left forms a gesture of blessing. Above the medallion, an engraved inscription reading: O A(ΓIOC) HOANHC (for O Άγιος Ιωάννης = 'Saint John'). Originally attached to a pole (remains of solder at the base). Right arm reattached.
